Quick answer: should Indian students consider Samarkand State Medical University?

SamSMU’s official international-faculty page lists Medicine as a full-time programme leading to a Medical Doctor qualification, with a normative duration of six years for senior-secondary graduates. The university also publishes English as one of its teaching languages, an international admission interview and substantial simulation-training infrastructure.

These published facts do not establish NMC/FMGL compliance for an individual intake. Indian applicants should obtain programme-level evidence covering all academic years, a separate internship, the clinical-training language and sites, the final degree title and eligibility for local licensure before paying.

What is published and what still needs confirmation?

Programme duration, qualification and internship

The university’s International Faculty of Medical Education lists specialty 7510100 Medicine, a Medical Doctor qualification and six years of full-time study for graduates of senior secondary education. This is stronger evidence than an agent brochure, but Indian students still need an intake-specific curriculum.

Ask SamSMU to confirm in writing:

  • the total programme duration in months and semesters;
  • at least 54 months of academic medical education where required by current NMC rules;
  • a separate 12-month internship at the same foreign medical institution;
  • the internship hospitals, supervision, rotations, attendance and assessment;
  • how the internship appears on the transcript and completion documents;
  • the exact degree or qualification title printed on the final diploma; and
  • whether the graduate becomes eligible to apply for medical registration or licensing in Uzbekistan.

Do not treat the terms MBBS, MD, Medicine and General Medicine as automatically interchangeable. The offer letter, enrolment contract, curriculum, transcript and diploma should identify one consistent programme and awarding institution.

English-medium teaching needs written proof

SamSMU’s official FAQ says teaching is conducted in Uzbek, Russian and English. Its foreign-admission page also permits an interview in English or Russian. This supports the existence of English-language education, but it does not prove that a particular international cohort receives every lecture, examination, hospital rotation and internship activity in English.

Request an official medium-of-instruction letter that covers:

  • all six academic years;
  • written, oral and practical examinations;
  • clinical teaching and bedside instruction;
  • internship supervision, logbooks and assessments;
  • the local-language preparation used for patient communication; and
  • any transfer to another campus, partner institution or country.

Students should expect to learn Uzbek or Russian for real patient interaction even when academic instruction is offered in English. Ask when language classes begin and which proficiency is expected before clinical rotations.

NMC/FMGL checks for Indian applicants

The National Medical Commission’s 1 April 2026 advisory for Uzbekistan tells Indian students to perform due diligence and comply with the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021.

Before paying, match SamSMU’s written programme evidence against current requirements for:

  • programme and internship duration;
  • English as the medium for the required medical education;
  • mandatory subjects, practical work and clinical training;
  • training and internship within the permitted institution and country structure;
  • eligibility for registration or a licence in the country awarding the degree; and
  • the examination and supervised-internship pathway applicable in India.

Read the NMC and FMGL eligibility guide. NMC does not publish a blanket list of approved foreign medical universities. Accreditation, rankings and WDOMS listing do not replace student- and programme-level compliance.

Accreditation and institutional evidence

SamSMU’s education-quality department states that ECAQA evaluated the university and awarded international institutional accreditation. The university also reports that its General Medicine programmes in Uzbek, Russian and English were placed on a portal of accredited basic medical programmes.

Verify the accrediting body, programme name, language, campus, award, decision date and validity directly. Institutional accreditation can be different from programme accreditation. Neither automatically guarantees NMC compliance, admission, a visa, FMGE/NExT performance or medical registration in India.

The university also reports placement in the 301–400 band of the 2026 THE Sustainability Impact Ratings. This rating concerns sustainability impact; it is not a medical licensing decision or a substitute for checking the curriculum and internship.

International admission process

SamSMU’s foreign-admission procedure says international applicants are admitted through an oral interview in Biology, Chemistry and the selected language of instruction, with Russian and English listed as language options.

  1. Check Indian eligibility: review Class 12 Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English marks, NEET validity, age and current NMC conditions.
  2. Confirm the exact programme: obtain the current programme code, degree title, six-year structure, medium and campus.
  3. Use an official application route: verify the university domain, admissions contact and required registration platform before sending documents.
  4. Prepare for the interview: request the current syllabus, format, pass criteria and identity-verification procedure.
  5. Authenticate the offer: confirm the offer directly with the university and check every name, number, programme detail and condition.
  6. Review the contract: identify tuition, mandatory charges, refund rules, payment dates and the official recipient account.
  7. Complete visa and arrival steps: follow current instructions for invitation support, the A-1 student visa, insurance, travel and local registration.

Use the documents and admission timeline to organise each stage.

The published document list needs clarification

For Class 12 applicants: the public admission page includes a bachelor’s diploma and employment/pension records, while the international-faculty page describes a six-year Medicine route for senior-secondary graduates. The sources do not explain which checklist applies to that route. Do not treat the public list as a complete undergraduate checklist or assume a bachelor’s degree is required for every applicant.

This mismatch should be clarified directly. Ask the international admissions office for a dated, programme-specific checklist for a foreign senior-secondary graduate applying to the six-year Medicine programme. The university’s published list also mentions a passport copy, electronic photograph, medical Form 086/U, varicella vaccination certificate, HIV test issued within three months and annual medical examinations.

Parent checklist: six documents before payment

Keep one shared folder and check that the student’s name, programme, campus and intake agree across every document. Use these questions when speaking to the university and your counsellor.

01 · Offer and admission checklist

Does the offer apply to the undergraduate Medicine route? Are all academic and medical requirements clear?

02 · Curriculum and calendar

Which subjects, hospitals, clinical rotations, assessment rules and attendance requirements apply?

03 · Language letter

What is taught and examined in English? What local-language preparation is needed for patient contact?

04 · Internship and licensing evidence

Where is the internship completed, how is it documented, and what registration route applies in Uzbekistan?

05 · Contract and itemised cost sheet

Which charges are compulsory, what can increase, who receives payment, and what refund terms apply?

06 · Housing and arrival confirmation

Is a room allocated? Are visa, insurance, registration, arrival and emergency-contact arrangements documented?

Tuition fees and total six-year cost

The official sources reviewed for this guide confirm paid-contract study but do not provide a clear current fee schedule for an ordinary international Medicine intake. Third-party websites publish different annual figures and packages. Treat those figures as unverified until SamSMU issues a dated contract or invoice for the exact programme and intake.

What the official payment link shows: the university’s international-payment menu opens a sample agreement. Its academic-year fields are unfilled and it refers to a specific third-party payment arrangement. We have not established a current, general 2026/27 fee tariff from that document. Use the official contract template (PDF) to identify questions, then request the contract that applies to you.

Request written amounts for:

  • tuition for every year or semester;
  • application, interview, invitation and registration charges;
  • laboratory, examination and clinical-training fees;
  • internship and graduation costs;
  • hostel, deposit, utilities and meals;
  • health insurance, medical tests and residence registration;
  • visa, travel and airport transfer;
  • books, uniforms, instruments and local-language classes;
  • consultancy or service charges paid outside the university;
  • annual increases and exchange-rate conditions; and
  • withdrawal, transfer and refund rules.

Build base, higher-cost and stress scenarios with the MBBS in Uzbekistan total-cost guide. Keep living costs, flights, currency movement and emergencies outside any optimistic package quote.

Clinical training and simulation facilities

SamSMU’s Simulation Training Center was opened in 2023. The official page describes a three-storey facility with 20 simulation rooms, an XR clinic, briefing and debriefing areas, and training spaces covering medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics, emergency care and other disciplines. It also reports more than 500 items of medical equipment and over 200 prepared clinical cases.

Simulation infrastructure is useful, but it does not establish the amount or quality of real patient exposure. Ask for the current Medicine curriculum and a list of hospitals allocated to the international cohort. Verify when bedside training begins, patient-contact arrangements, local-language expectations, clinical logbooks, supervision, attendance and assessment.

Hostel and private accommodation

An older university dormitory page describes four dormitories with 1,300 places and facilities for local and international students. A separate 24 August 2026 announcement reports that a new 500-bed student dormitory was commissioned.

Do not simply add these numbers or assume a room is guaranteed. Ask the university for its current total capacity, which buildings are available to first-year international Medicine students, room occupancy, tariff, deposit, utilities, meal arrangements, distance from teaching sites and allocation period. The university FAQ says foreign students apply to the appropriate dean’s office after enrolment.

Prepare a private-housing alternative that includes rent, deposit, utilities, internet, furniture and transport. Obtain recent photographs, written rules and a sample accommodation agreement before arrival.

Student visa and arrival planning

Uzbekistan’s official visa guidance describes the A-1 student visa for foreign students studying on a permanent basis. Confirm the university’s invitation or TELEX process, visa validity, insurance, travel window and local-registration procedure directly with SamSMU.

Do not book a non-refundable flight until the university confirms the correct visa and arrival date. Carry the verified offer, contract, payment proof, visa documents, insurance, medical records, accommodation information and original academic documents.

Red flags before paying

  • The programme is sold as “NMC approved” without a student-specific compliance review.
  • A third-party fee sheet replaces the university’s signed contract.
  • English medium is promised verbally without coverage of clinical years and internship.
  • The application checklist does not clearly apply to an undergraduate Class 12 applicant.
  • The offer, contract and degree information use different programme or institution names.
  • Clinical hospitals, patient exposure and internship sites are not identified.
  • Hostel is described as guaranteed without a written allocation and full tariff.
  • Payment is requested in cash or to an individual or unrelated company.
  • Someone guarantees admission, visa approval, FMGE/NExT success or Indian registration.

Apply the foreign medical university verification checklist before paying a deposit.

Frequently asked questions

Is Samarkand State Medical University approved by NMC?

NMC does not publish or endorse a blanket list of approved foreign medical universities. The exact programme and each student must satisfy all applicable education, internship, language and licensing conditions.

How long is Medicine at SamSMU?

The official international-faculty page lists six years for senior-secondary graduates. Obtain the complete curriculum and a separate internship plan for the exact intake before paying.

Is the complete programme taught in English?

The university states that English is one of its teaching languages and offers an English admission-interview option. Students still need programme-level confirmation for every academic year, examination, clinical rotation and internship activity.

What are the Samarkand State Medical University fees for 2026?

The official sources reviewed confirm paid-contract study but do not provide a clear current fee schedule for the ordinary international Medicine intake. Request a dated university contract and calculate accommodation, living, visa, insurance, travel and compulsory charges separately.

Which documents does a Class 12 applicant need?

Request a dated undergraduate Medicine checklist directly from the university. Its public procedure includes a bachelor’s diploma and employment-related items, so this guide’s preparation table is a list of questions to resolve, not an official final submission checklist.

Is a university hostel guaranteed?

No published capacity figure is an individual room guarantee. Ask for a written allocation, building, occupancy, complete tariff, facilities and dates, and keep a private-housing alternative.

Does accreditation or WDOMS listing guarantee registration in India?

No. Accreditation and directory listing are separate from NMC/FMGL compliance. Verify the exact programme, medium, clinical training, internship and eligibility for licensing in Uzbekistan.
